The Annual Lumberjack Dance where the Lumberjack Days Queen is crowned. The logging games have grown popularity each year for the young and young at heart. A Beard Contest was a Centennial event as was the 1869 Dress Contest. Horse pulling was enjoyed by many and the Log Rollers thrilled many onlookers as well as a few brave local recruits. This year's parade will commemorate the 200th birthday of the United States of America. See you at the parade in Baraga on the 4th of July!!"

Many Keweenaw communities, from South Range to Copper Harbor, have Independence Day celebrations with parades, childrens games, BBQs, entertainment and good old-fashioned family fun. Fireworks displays will be held in Lake Linden on the 2nd and in South Range & Copper Harbor on the 4th.

Come join us for an exciting weekend on the beautiful and rugged trails of the Keweenaw in The Full Keweenaw, the Team Pursuit or the Team Relay. The 1st ever Run the Keweenaw, A Festival of Trails will be held Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11 in Copper Harbor. Saturday's activities include the Mt. Baldy Summit Run (6k) at 9 am in Eagle Harbor, a family BBQ/Music/Expo in Copper Harbor from noon to 2 pm, the 2k Junior Trail Run at 2 pm, the 12k Copper Harbor Trails Challenge at 5 pm and the 12k Copper Harbor Trails Non-Competitive Run/Hike at 5:05 pm. On Sunday the 25k Keweenaw Trails Run will be held at 8 pm in Copper Harbor. A 25k Team Relay (2 person team) will also be held along with a brunch with door prizes. Registration and details are available on the website.

The 35th Annual Canal Run includes 5 & 10 mile runs and 5 & 10 mile competitive walks from McLain State Park to Hancock and will be held on Saturday, July 17. The run begins at 8 am at McLain State Park on M-203 west of Hancock. The walk begins at 7 am. T-shirts will be provided to all participants with medals and trophies awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners. Registration forms are available on the website. A pre-race pasta dinner, hosted by the Keweenaw Co-op Natural Foods Market and Deli will run from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, July 16 at Finland University's Mannerheim Hall in Hancock.

  12:30 PM End of the Road Keweenaw Tour
The Annual End of the Road Keweenaw Tour & Car Show will be held in Copper Harbor on Saturday, July 17. The Cruise leaves at 12:30 pm from the Pat's IGA Parking lot on Sixth Street in Calumet. The Car Show is held in Copper Harbor with awards, live entertainment, food and refreshments. The event is a benefit for the Copper Harbor school.   08:00 AM Civil War Encampment
History comes alive at Fort Wilkins State Park on US-41 just east of Copper Harbor tentatively on Friday, July 30 through Sunday, August 1. Battery D, 1st Michigan Light Artillery, a Civil War era living history group returns to Fort Wilkins for its 26th weekend encampment. The weekend event will be open to park visitors from 8 am to 8 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 8 am to 4 pm on Sunday. Battery D will interpret army life of the period demonstrating artillery and small arms drills, period cooking and soldiers' pastimes. A daily or annual motor vehicle permit is required to enter the park. For more information, contact Fort Wilkins at 906-289-4215.
