Maria Sliva

 
Maria was nominated by Sierra Bishop, School Counselor, who describes her as “very energetic,” noting she was cast as the lead part in the play.”

School activities: volleyball, first chair trumpet in band, choir, and Builders Club; also plays soccer in the summer, takes dance classes (hip-hop, ballet, and pre-pointe), takes voice and guitar lessons, and volunteers at the Portage Lake District Library during the summer.

Hobbies: reading, making jewelry, snowboarding, listening to music, making music, cooking, talking, swimming, and helping people.

Significant accomplishments: advanced to the U.P. finals round in the spelling bee, won first place in the district’s America and Me Michigan Heritage writing contest for “My Hero,” and nominated by the Ladies’ Auxiliary for Outstanding Youth Volunteer of the Year.

Future plans: to attend the University of Notre Dame to pursue a degree in pre-medicine and then go to the University of Michigan Medical School for a degree in medicine; would like to train to be an infectious disease specialist.
