Amanda Kinley Haapala

Nominated by Lois Weber, Transition Coordinator:
“Amanda has been involved in a mentoring program with our school district for the last 4 years. The program S.T.O.M.P. (Students Training On Mentoring Peers) trains high school youth to mentor peers and younger students who are in special education. S.T.O.M.P. members join the program because they want to help others, are willing to talk about their disability, and are in special education or have a 504 plan. Amanda is very willing to talk about her disability and share personal experiences. She has demonstrated integrity, dependability, and self-determination. She is involved in health careers and has participated in HOSA competitions. I feel Amanda would be a positive role model for other teens.

School activities: track & field, S.T.O.M.P., and Upward Bound.

Hobbies: Being outside and playing basketball with siblings.

Significant accomplishments: Named “Student of the Week” in 11th grade and successfully completed the nurses’ assistant class.

Future plans: to attend college, pursuing a nursing degree while participating in an R.O.T.C. program.
