Tobacco
Tobacco is usually smoked in the form of cigarettes but people may smoke tobacco in pipes, cigars or use smokeless tobacco (dipping/chewing). The addictive substance found in tobacco is a stimulant called nicotine. Nicotine use results in a short-term increase in blood pressure, heart rate and the flow of blood from the heart. It also causes the arteries to narrow

Cigarettes cause more deaths than cocaine, auto accidents, AIDS, alcohol, heroin, fire, suicide and homicide combined. Smoking is the single most preventable cause of death and disease. Smoking can cause chronic lung disease, coronary heart disease and stroke. Researchers have identified more than 40 cancer-causing chemicals in tobacco smoke that may lead to cancer of the lungs, larynx, esophagus, mouth, bladder, cervix, pancreas or kidneys. Smokeless tobacco and cigars also have deadly consequences, including lung, larynx, esophageal and oral cancer.
